Love to You and Your Family From Us and Our Family. Happy New Year as We Stand and Watch the Tides Turn!
We live by the ocean and the thing about playing in the waves with your kids is that the sea is so enormous, so much bigger than any of the war and the politics and the things we fret about in this fragile world.
The ocean is big like the sky and it can hold us in all our feelings and all our little humanness. It’s good to remember what we have control over and what is not in our realm to decide. Sometimes it’s just about being in right relationship.
Whoever you are and wherever you’’re reading this, I wish you some of the wonder of our little children staring out at the ocean with their loving parents. Remember we’re out here and grateful to be connected to you.
This book was a great solstice gift from family up North:
How do I sum up this year for you? The kids are 2 1/2 and they are so much fun and just So Much. Alice and I are grateful for the grandma’s who support us: Nan down the street, Nona in New York City, and Abuelita on the other side of town.
We are growing our little people on the West Side of Los Angeles.
It feels like they grow more every day.
We do things to mark the time.
We sing them songs and after awhile they sing them back to us.
They love each other. Really, it’s amazing to witness how they grow together.
Nan bakes muffins with them every Monday and last night I was reading them a new story and it got to a part with a squirrel having a dream about an acorn. “What kind of things are you going to dream about tonight?” I asked. In his cute little voice Silas answered “Muffins.”
Happy new year! Be in touch! It feels a bit like we’re in a tunnel raising toddlers and it’s probably going to be like this for awhile. Many things fall by the wayside. It’s always good to hear from old friends.
Mad love, Sascha
Hey Sascha,
Even though we haven't met in person, it's super lovely to see your growing family!
Your Mom and Gil just visited us upstate Saturday for lunch (we are the downhill neighbors on the pond) and it was so so nice to see them both. Proud NONA showed me some photos of the kiddos and then sent a link to this blog.
Kids are nothing short of wild and wonderful (my boys Otis and Theo are 10 and 8) and truly do expand ones heart endlessly. Enjoy it ALL!
All my best,
Hardy
SO DELICIOUS TO SEE THESE DELIGHTFUL PICTURES
